Ryan Johnston, a first-year graduate student in the Dept. of Geosciences, has been awarded a Visiting Fellowship by the Institute for Rock Magnetism (IRM) at University of Minnesota. The IRM, a facility supported by the National Science Foundation, provides advanced magnetic instrumentation for use by researchers around the world.
The fellowship will allow Ryan to analyze sediment samples he collected from Sarah Furnace Cave, Pennsylvania. His M.S. project seeks to understand the relationship between this cave, which is the densest maze in the world, and a massive ~1 million years old, glacially-related paleolake that once spanned across western Pennsylvania and parts of Ohio.
Congratulations, Ryan!
