Engineering and Engineering Technology Career Fair sells out – UA students in demand for engineering jobs

Campus was a sea of students wearing ties, dark suits, and overall looking extra spiffy en route to the Engineering and Engineering Technology Career Fair on Tuesday, February 5. The Career Fair provided nearly 1,000 students with the opportunity to meet with prospective employers and learn about possible job opportunities, either for co-op rotations or full-time employment post-graduation.

The Engineering Co-op and Placement Department holds two career fairs each year − one in the fall and the other typically around February. Last week’s event was the largest spring fair in its 12-year history. Typically, the spring career fair brings 120 employers to campus. This year, that number was 168.

“We had 30 companies attend our Career Fair for the first time,” says Erin Elosh, Engineering Co-op and Placement Coordinator. “The high level of corporate interest is a direct result of how well-prepared our students are for careers in industry.”

Companies pay a $350 registration fee to attend. This gives them access to hundreds of prospective employees through UA’s Engineering Co-op and Placement Program where students integrate classroom instruction with practical and valuable on-the-job work experience. Big names like DuPont, Diebold Nixdorf, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, and The Ohio Department of Transportation were in attendance 

“The Career Fair is a valuable recruiting tool for LORD,” says Kirk Olsen, Senior Staff Engineer at LORD Corporation and UA alum. “With access to a large pool of diverse, multi-discipline engineering students, we are able to find the right candidates for open full-time and co-op positions.”

The event attracted students from a variety of majors including engineering, polymer science, engineering technology and construction field operations. For Gavin Francisco, a senior mechanical engineering student, the career fair “was a great way to find local companies.” Good luck, Gavin!
