Gao named Fellow by American Society of Mechanical Engineers
09/17/2013
Dr. Xiaosheng Gao, professor of mechanical engineering, has been named a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
The Fellow grade is the highest elected grade of membership in ASME. Fellowship is conferred to members with at least 10 years of active engineering practice and with significant contributions to the profession.
Gao’s primary areas of expertise include mechanics of materials and structures, computational mechanics, fatigue and fracture mechanics, multi-scale modeling of damage and failure and material characterization with microstructure. His work has included the development of mechanism-based models to simulate material failure processes and predict the fracture of structural components.
